Hi I’m David. I started studying at university level late in my life. I’m probably referred to as a mature student although maturity is something I don’t always portray. I have two undergraduate degrees: Sociology and Criminology with Psychology. I am currently studying by Distance Learning for my MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice. I have a particular interest in hate crimes – especially those involving people with disabilities on public transport. I live in Essex and volunteer in many capacities.
I have never been a blogger before – in any context. I applied to a University of Leicester ad’ to do this for one year and I have enjoyed it as a new experience. Soon, they will be looking for a new Distance Learning Criminology blogger. Have a think about applying, it can be fun […]
May I wish all of our readers’ a peaceful and joyous Christmas period whatever your religion or beliefs. If I can wish anything for humankind, it is peace and fulfillment, without negatively affecting others. Take care!
I did it, I’ve been accepted to do a PhD! I remember that icy cold sensation of studying at the undergraduate level. The concerns, the worries, the schedules and the waiting for results. … and I did two undergraduate degrees! Then, for some inexplicable reason, I went through the Master’s’ programme. This time involving the […]

For Those of you who have read my previous blogs you may know that I have a passionate interest in criminology and especially in hate crime. Hate crime has been growing in recent times in the UK since the announcement of the Brexit referendum poll. It was sad to witness in the UK a staggering […]

Following a post by Frances, I too must comment on FutureLearn. This week I am faced with a new challenge within the academic study of criminology and security studies. I am having a preliminary interview with the objective of starting a PhD. I remember being petrified when I first started my undergraduate studies. The questions arose: will I cope? Am I clever enough? What if my […]
I recently read an article in a local newspaper. It referred to a video of a man being unbelievably cruel to a dog. He was later found guilty of the offence and fined heavily. Often, we find that animals seem to have inexplicable dislikes for some humans and this might explain why. One of my […]
