As I know it is not one of my strengths, and I have to give a presentation for one of my modules next week, I decided to go to the Public Speaking workshop. This was a useful thing to do as they offered some good tips such as try to speak unusually slowly and channel your nervousness into excitement. It also provided a safe space to practice, as we all gave a speech about a given topic lasting up to a minute. Whilst I don’t think I’m suddenly going to become the best public speaker ever, it was definitely worth doing to build some confidence.
If you’re a student at Leicester, I’d recommend having a look at the different workshops and seeing if there’s anything you’re interested in! You never know what you could learn and it’s a good idea to take advantage of things like this when they’re free.
