Varsity has come to an end, with Leicester triumphing over DMU and retaining the Varsity title which we’ve held since records began in 2000. Varsity is a great way of showcasing different sports and boosting team morale, with everyone involved from the players to the supporters.
I have been a member of UoL Netball Club since I first started university so this was my third and final varsity. This year, I’m on the 3rd team which has been great, especially as we’ve done so well making it to the final of the cup (sadly losing out to Loughborough) and coming second in our league. We were fairly confident coming into Varsity as we’ve always beat DMU in the past. However, it was set to be an exciting evening with three BUCS teams playing (our 4th team had played the previous week).
We were playing in the Leicester Arena which is home to the Leicester Riders basketball team so was an amazing environment to be in. The atmosphere was great, with lots of support from both Leicester and DMU. The occasion kicked off with the thirds match and we brought home a win of 56-23. Next was the seconds who won an easy 60-15. Finally was the first teams game which was a bit more tense but they smashed it and won 38-25. So overall a great day for ULNC!
Being part of ULNC really has been a highlight of my university experience and Varsity is one of the occasions that makes it so special. It’s a great feeling when all the hard work that we put in pays off, not to mention the celebrations afterwards. I’m really going to miss being part of the club but hopefully I can come back to support next years Varsity!
