Rewind- so what is a Medical Elective

So I realised I jumped straight into my last post about my elective without explaining what it is!

A medical elective give students in their later years a chance to experience medicine in a different setting be that an unusual branch of medicine in the UK or experiencing medicine abroad! The idea is to broaden our minds and experiences before we start our first jobs as foundation doctors!

For my elective I have organised a placement in Antigua! This elective means a lot to me as it is where my dads family are from and so I am able to combine the completion of my medical training with the wonderful opportunity of meeting sides of my family that I haven’t ever met before! Also to experience and learn about Antiguan culture which is an integral part of my mixed rate identity!

I’ll be keeping you updated on all my adventures of course!

Till next time
