Hello everyone! I’m Tamara and I will be taking over from Matt as the student blogger for medicine! I thought for my first blog I will introduce myself to you all.
So I am going into my third year at Leicester Medical School and I live in Birmingham! Medicine is definitely a large part of my life. During term time it is my focus and I often find myself linking most things in life to something we’ve learnt (some would describe me as a bit of a nerd.) I am enjoying the course a lot though and as I go further on, it’s getting more and more interesting. It is hard work, but I actually think we have it quite easy compared to some courses. We don’t have assignments in throughout the year and we have half days so they give us enough time to get all our work done after uni and then there’s time to chill, go to society things and go out!
Another massive part of my life is dance. Any of my friends will tell you that if there’s upbeat music on I will be dancing, no matter where I am or who’s around. Since coming to uni, I’ve taken my love for dance more seriously and I joined University of Leicester Asian Dance Society. I will do separate blogs on this society as it’s been a major part of my university life and will continue to be next year.
Although I’m almost 21, I am definitely a big kid! I love Disney and cheesy music like one direction (although I’m not sure how I feel about them now that Zayn has left) and I have questionable homely skills – often putting off doing my washing for as long as possible and cooking just the simplest of dishes such as pasta! However,I have got lots of plans for next year to cook proper, healthy meals so watch this space for my recipes and probably some stories of cooking disasters.
So that was just a quick introduction to me. Bye for now but watch this space for many more blogs about me, medicine and my life at university of Leicester.
Hi Tamara
My daughter is keen on doing medicine at Leicester after completing her A levels.
I was hoping that either yourself or one of your medical colleagues would be available at some point in October (Not the 17th as she has a prior engagement!) in order to give her the lowdown on medicine at Leicester and maybe show her around.
Please would you let me know if this is possible. Thank you.
Dr S Hundal.
Hello 🙂
Firstly I am very sorry for my delayed response.
That’s amazing that she’s considering medicine at Leicester -it’s such a unique medical school which is very patient centred. I think a better way for her to gain the most information is to come of one of the medical open days -there will be more than one medical students around to talk to and show you around the whole campus -with access to places I wouldn’t be able to take her to. I know she is unable to attend the 17th, but if you call the student recruitment office: +44 (0)116 252 2674, you can arrange an individual tour and you can ask for a medical school ambassador to show you around. I hope this is helpful.
