To celebrate Stephen Hawking’s 75th birthday a conference called “Gravity and Black Holes” is being held over the next few days. At this conference there will be lectures and discussions about recent discoveries in cosmology and the future of this field of physics.
So we all know that Stephen Hawking is a genius but what exactly has he done for physics? I think this video does a good summary of this.
Stephen Hawking has done some amazing work so far in his career and continues to do so. If you want to learn more about his life I recommend you to read his autobiography: “My Brief History”. If you prefer films I recommend you watch “The Theory of Everything” adapted from the memoir written by his ex-wife, Jane Wilde Hawking, about her relationship with Stephen Hawking. I also think if you enjoy physics you definitely will enjoy Hawking’s world famous book “A Brief History Of Time: From Big Bang To Black Holes”.
As well as an important physicist, Stephen Hawking has become an influential and inspiring public figure. Yesterday, he spoke to the BBC about his opinions on recent affairs:
I have read a little about cosmology, and also have watched documentaries and videos on the topic. Next year, however, I am going to do the cosmology optional topic and fully delve into this subject.
“Look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see, and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious.”
