Factually correct analogies brought to you by my good friend and soon-to-be flatmate.
I was going to call this post ‘busy bee’, but either way it has to be said things are picking up. The wheels are beginning to turn on the final year adventure, and I’m already furiously scribbling in my planner in the hopes of keeping things organised.
At uni it can be difficult to balance everything – how many nights can you afford(in all senses of the word) to go out? How late can you leave that 1,500 word essay? How about 2,500? Go for the jackpot and see how late you can leave the 10,000? How many shifts can you take before your brain is too frazzled to function in lectures? All very important questions that I’m sure will be uttered by the drones of students passing through the David Wilson doors this semester.
For me this semester it’s especially important to get on top of things before it all gets too much. I recently accepted a part-time job, and once all of the paperwork is sorted and they’ve contacted every person that’s taught me since I was 5, I’ll be working 15 hours a week. I’m also about to start my fourth and final year, so naturally the word ‘dissertation’ will be ringing in my ears for the foreseeable future. And to top things off, I applied to be a buddy for international students. I was assigned a buddy (or “amigo”) whilst at ASU and thought it was a pretty great scheme, so when I learnt of one at Leicester I thought it would be a great chance to pass on my experiences of studying abroad as well as meet new people and pad out my CV. You know, that bit where you’re meant to put extra courses and skills. I don’t think acting in a school play when I was 8 counts (although I did get glowing reviews from the school dinner ladies and lollipop ladies).
For now though, I’m soaking in my last week of living at home for a while. I move into my new flat on Tuesday (yay!) so look out for a blog on that. Judging by how much stuff I have already piled up in anticipation of cramming it into my car, the struggle will be all too real.
