It’s now less than two weeks until I move into my second year uni house and I am unbelievably excited, not only to have our own space but also to see everyone again and get back into some sort of structure (apparently waking up at 11 isn’t the most productive way to spend ones day). I’m also really excited to start my course again (I’ve already bought coordinating stationery) and to get busy on some exciting projects I’ve got coming up. The sadness of seeing first year go has now been completely washed over by desire to get cracking with second year and to really knuckle down and feel productive.
I’ve felt inspired this summer by a number of different things, but most recently was an exhibition at the National Gallery called Soundscapes. “Hear the painting, see the sound” is the tagline for the exhibition and I was immediately intrigued. Featuring pieces from artists such as Jamie xx (one of my favs), the whole project exceeded my high expectations and I left feeling hugely inspired and with a lot of positive energy (hippie vibes and that). The way in which these musicians had managed to convey a painting through a piece of music and so successfully in a couple of instances, really opened my eyes to seeing things in new ways and to see beyond what immediately meets the eye. It also reminded me how each of us see things in completely different ways due to the subjectivity of art and how this makes life far more interesting as we all have different ways of looking at things and ways of approaching things.
It gave me quite an elation to feel so inspired in such a short space of time but also made me look forward to this coming academic year even more (and to seeing Jamie xx in October). It’s also taught me that there’s inspiration all around us, particularly in the people we surround ourselves with and I look forward to feeling even more inspired by all sorts of things this year. What inspires you?
