The weather outside is…frightful, deadlines are fast approaching, and you have almost scraped the bottom of your student loan as we speed toward the end of term. If you are a final year, you’re probably currently bogged down in graduate job applications (some of which you will have already been rejected from) and the thought of your dissertation is looming on the horizon. Overall, it’s a bad time to be a student and students at the University of Leicester are probably looking for some escapism. So with that in mind, my next student blog is a list of five happy TV shows you can watch to get you through the darkness.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt – With two seasons on Netflix of this fun, bright, and light hearted show is the perfect thing to get you through the darkest depths of winter. It’s got positive messages about overcoming trauma and women, as well as some hilarious jokes and even a couple of musical numbers.
Jane the Virgin – This show is dangerous. It’s very addictive and there’s 24 episodes that last a full hour. Styled as a mixture of a telenovela and a drama, there’s plot twists a plenty and lots of heart. So make yourself a grilled cheese and get watching.
Glee – Watch the first two seasons of this show before it got bad for a nostalgic, musical, and happy blast from the past. If you’re a long-time fan you can marvel at how young the actors look and the actual plot. If you’re new to the show you’ve got time to get to the end of the second season before the January exam season.
How I Met Your Mother – Sometimes laugh-out-loud funny, sometimes sad, and sometime downright weird. This show is nine seasons of some of the best television ever made. So, even if you ignore the train wreck that is Season 9, you’ve still got plenty of binge watching material to procrastinate through all your exams.
Brooklyn 99 – This show is whacky, funny, and won’t require much focus so it’s a great distraction. Curl up with a hot chocolate and watch the Halloween episodes if you are short of time but, be warned, you’ll probably end up watching every single episode and rooting for Peralta and Santiago.
Don’t forget to let me know in the comments what your favourite shows to binge watch and get you through the winter are!
