So you’re here, in Leicester. For most of you, it’ll be the first time that you have been away from your parents/carers and I really hope you enjoy the freedom that University brings. This freedom can be daunting and this post is to tell you about what resources and services that there are at uni if you do need a helping hand.
Student Services – if you need a hand this place is the first place I would personally go! It is located in the Charles Wilson building which is literally in the centre of the campus, I think the building looks like a transformer if that gives you any help as to where it is situated! These guys can help you with matters from your accommodation issues to part-time jobs, anything you need they are here. Also here is a link to their webpage if you do need anything or want any more information:
AccessAbility Centre – if you need a hand with your study skills or exam arrangements this is the place to go. The centre is located in the David Wilson library, if you walk through the barriers it is the first door on the right with a big sign above it saying AccessAbility Centre. The centre also allows people to have a quiet place to work as well as someone to talk to regarding anything to do with your learning including exams. Here is a link to their page which again if you need anything here are more details for you:
Counselling and Mental Wellbeing – if you struggle with a mental illness or your mental wellbeing isn’t the best while you are at uni, the university has a counselling service which will help you to get yourself on the mend.
Victoria Park HealthCare Centre is a minute walk from campus so they could also give you a hand if you needed it. Further, the Uni also has LeicsTalk which is a service that allows you to talk to someone if you need a hand. But there are even more services regarding your mental health as well as your physical health! A full range of the University services can be found by clicking this link:
Education Unit – if you need to fill out a mitigating circumstances form or just need some advice about your course or have exam worries, the education unit can help with this. They are located in the SU on the first floor and is somewhere that you should definitely familiarise yourself with its location due to the wide range of issues they can help you with. More information can be found out about the unit if you click on the link:
Choices – Choices is a Confidential Drop in NHS Sexual Health and Relationship Clinic. It is held in the SU and is available and free to all students under 25. They can provide you with contraception, advice and just someone to talk to when you are struggling with issues regarding your sexual health or sexual relationships. I’ll leave a link to where you can find out some more information about this:
Finally, we have SABB team at Uni. This is a team of students that have been elected by us as students to run the SU. There are 5 members of this team and they can help you in different areas of your uni experiences ranging from well-being to sport. I will include each SABB member’s facebook link for you so you can easily get into contact with them if needed:
