All this talk on websites, blogs and newspapers over the past few weeks about A-level results, Clearing and starting university has got me thinking about when I was going through that phase just a couple of years ago. Due to a family related situation I found myself in during the period of writing personal statements and applying to universities through UCAS, I never applied for to study at university when most of my peers were doing so. I admittedly felt like I was missing out on something important and this hit me particularly hard when my friends started to receive letters offering them conditional places.
Approximately three to four months after the October deadline of submitting the university applications for most courses, I applied to study Medical Physiology at the University of Leicester. I knew it was a bit of a long shot as being a popular course at a well sought after university, it would be surprising if there were any places left at all. Thankfully my hopes were not dashed as I soon received a conditional offer to start university in the new academic year. To say the least, I was very very excited!
Judging from many of your comments on the Biological Sciences Facebook page and the Facebook pages of other courses, I know many of you are feeling the same way. There is just something almost surreal about starting a course you enjoy at a whole new place where you will get to meet countless new people from interesting backgrounds which vary from your own.
So let me end this post by congratulating all of you who will be starting at the University of Leicester this October and I hope you all have well deserved break from any academic related activities until then!
