Student Elections

untitledWalking around on campus I’ve noticed large hand painted signs and printed leaflets going up asking for votes for the Student Union Executive Officer Elections. I truly have little knowledge of what each position involves but do know that in somehow whatever they do means that the rest of us students have a good student experience including social activities and the more academic side of things.

The good thing about the Student Union’s elections is that they are 100% democratic – there’s no job application process, shortlists or panels to make the decision. The students vote and decide who will run and manage the Union and voting itself takes only a couple of minutes.

The Students’ Union is independent of the University. Executive Officers sit on important University committees; they know and understand the people and processes involved in making decisions, and they do their best to improve student life at Leicester. So even though I have little knowledge about the ins and outs of the Students’ Union, I will be taking some time out this week to read the manifestos and hopefully vote for the best leaders.
