As most people are probably aware, after exams the student union hosts the ‘Summer Social Weekender’. This is a two day event with three separate parts to it. The first is the Friday night Shabang at the O2 academy, a typical Friday night for Leicester students. The second takes place on the Saturday daytime and is described as a ‘Summer Funday’, with funfair attractions, different DJs and various food/drink outlets. Finally, there is a big event on the Saturday evening which is the Summer Ball. Everyone gets dressed up in their finery and all of the different rooms in the SU are open with different themes and music. This year, Sigala is playing, as is Danny Howard (a radio one DJ).
The event falls on the 10th/11th of June this year, and early bird tickets for the entire weekend are £20 (bought from the box office on the 25th and 26th of April). Tickets are then priced at £25. I went in my first year of university and I remember the tickets being a lot more expensive so I’m impressed at the prices this year. As it will be the last year a lot of my friends are studying in Leicester, a group of us are going as a final farewell. After a stressful year it will be a nice celebration!
