So here we are again, at the end of another semester. There’s only another week of teaching left before Easter, and then it’s basically revision time for a lot of Leicester students!
Instead of lamenting on passing time, I decided to dedicate this post to the things in my life – and in this semester – that have managed to keep my motivation afloat. It’s always nice to splash a little money here and there on things that you enjoy, as well to treat yourself to luxuries you might not normally (considering that you are on a student budget). Plus, students are incredibly busy but there is always time to do something other than a dissertation or an essay.
Shopping!
The variance of weather at Leicester has meant that I’ve had the urge to shop frequently this semester. It’s not something that everyone feels, but I’m always cheered up by a few hours at the shopping centre just trying on new ensembles. It has been a bit of a strange climate these past few months, with a single snow day, endless weeks of rain and now numerous days where a coat seems a tad unnecessary. There is definitely a shift in season, but the skies are still a tad grey. It is a little strange thinking how when I come back, I’ll have to consider lugging some summer clothes with me as it does get warm quickly once Easter ends.
Food
If it’s not Kimchi rice, then it’s brownies and ice cream, and abnormally large mugs of coffee. There is such a massive set of outlets to choose from that sometimes, most of the thinking time is spent on choosing the place rather than the dishes. I have really made an effort to eat out a little more this semester, if only to eat something other than my cooking, but as an easy way to meet up with friends. There is nothing more heartwarming than a meal, and when weeks are as heavy as third year’s have been, a night out eating something lovely is a gift!
Korean Music
I thought I should mention something that doesn’t require money and is generally more available. I became hooked by K-Pop in December 2015 and the love is still going strong. The music is catchy, the music videos are magnificent, and if you are looking for something new and pleasing to the eye and ear, then you should absolutely give some of the artists a listen. Also, my friends have set up as a society for it at Leicester University as I have mentioned before, so check them out if you want to know more!
Family
Unfortunately, I’ve been so busy this semester that I just haven’t had the time to travel back home to see my family. It’s been a little tiring not having a break from university, but they’ve been so supportive and understanding that Easter suddenly edged a lot quicker. I am excited to see them and having that to look forward to has been my main source of motivation through the endless hours in the Library.
So, that’s it for this week! Have a great rest of the weekend guys and wish all the 3rd year Biosciences students luck for their dissertation presentations next week!
