The last time I wrote about being part of the club committee for Equestrian and Polo was back in freshers, so I just thought I’d update you all on what’s been happening over the last couple of months.
In terms of my job as Polo Captain I’ve loved seeing the new members try out polo! The lessons have been going well we have had some regulars coming to play every lesson and have had a few people interested in nationals so hopefully by the end of this year or during the next we may have a team!
Being on committee so far has been a lot of fun, everyone is great and it’s exciting to be planning ahead for where we would like the club to go! We have had a development meeting with our staff contact at the uni to discuss this which gave us lots to think about! One of the best bits of being on a committee for a smaller club like Equestrian is that we can all get involved with all aspects of club planning, not just our specific role!
Earlier this year we decided we wanted to organise some club volunteering and have recently organised for small groups of members to volunteer at The Bridge, which is a charity that supports people who are homeless. I went with a group last week and we helped with serving food/clearing tables and it was great to do something that really does help people who need it!
Other than that we have been planning some of our home competitions, end of term social events and, weird as it seems to think that far ahead, opening applications for next years committee. So if you are thinking of being on a club or society committee next year then you might need to start thinking about it!
