That’s it, it’s the end of the second term (well almost, I still have the field trip which starts on Wednesday) and the start of the Easter holidays!
I thought I might take this chance to reflect on what I have been up to over the last few months!
This term started with January exams and more excitingly my 21st birthday! I had my last exam on my birthday which wasn’t perfect but it was the last time I will have January exams (hopefully) because third year biologists don’t have a January exam period!!
This term has been an unusual one for a lot of students with the disruption from the strikes, but none the less there has been a lot of exciting things happen for me.
I have continued to play and organise polo as Polo Captain for the Equestrian and Polo club and being part of the club has once again been the highlight of my term! This summer I am hoping to send a team to the University Polo Summer Nationals after securing funding from the club to help cover the costs for the players, which will be a real achievement for me and the perfect end to the year of being Polo Cap! In fact I ran for Club Captain for next year’s committee and am thrilled to announce that I was elected! So as of June I will be CC which will be a fantastic opportunity to give something back to the club which has been a huge part of my life all year!
Varsity was a big event this term and was so much fun to be part of (even if my team didn’t win)! I have written a whole post about the experience here, but I can’t say it enough to jump at the chance of being part of it if you get the chance whilst at uni!
Everyone who is part of a Team Leicester sports club at the Uni has to have gym membership and this term I have definitely made more use of it. I have started going a couple of times a week with some friends which makes it a lot more fun (even if we do get takeaways after too often)! I have also given some of the ‘Let’s Do Leicester’ Pilates classes a go and have really enjoyed them! You can read more about my experience of these here!
In regards to my course this term has been full of big decisions! I have submitted my dissertation choices (read more about how picking these for Biological Sciences courses works here) and third year module choices! Although we have to pick module choices quite early this year it is possible to change them at a later stage, which I will consider if I don’t get the exam results I expect for any reason!
This semester I have also been looking into doing a summer placement in one of the labs at uni, which will be a great opportunity to increase my experience of doing research! This is something I am keen to pursue as a future career so will be an invaluable experience, but I will post more about this once I have a placement and funding secured!
It’s been a busy term but it’s also been the start of a lot of exciting opportunities for the future and it’s gone so quickly! All that’s left for me to do is head off on to Mallorca next week on the field trip (look out for a post on this soon!) and start the dreaded revision!
Have a fabulous Easter holiday!
