This weekend I had my first experience of an escape room and I loved it!!
Four of us went to Escape Reality Leicester and we chose to do the Jungala room. This scenario is based on the film Jumanji; basically you play an old board game which transports you into a dangerous jungle that you have to escape from.
There were several small rooms. In each room were puzzles which we had to solve to get the correct codes to unlock chests or cupboards, and eventually the door to the next room. The rooms were all set up to match the theme which made the experience more exciting. I won’t tell you what the puzzles were because half the fun is working out what you need to do.
Each escape room has a different time limit, for Jungala it was an hour. If you get stuck on a puzzle you can scan the number of the puzzle and get a clue to help you work out what to do, BUT each clue you take adds 5 mins to your time at the end. We used one clue early on in the game but looking back we probably should have taken more time and tried not to use it. Once you get into thinking in the right way to solve the puzzles it gets easier to work out the answers. We completed the challenge in 37 mins, which gave us a total time of 42 mins with time penalty.
It cost us £18 each for the session and I would definitely go back again. If I did another I would probably do a slightly harder one than Jungala, but it’s a good one to do if you’ve never done one before!
