If you have read my last blog post you’ll know that I recently spent a weekend in London! I have already written all about the museums and art galleries we visited – check out my previous post! This time I’m going to write about the amazing places we went to for food!
On the first day we had lunch in the café in the V&A which, as I said in the previous post the food was wonderful and the café décor was stunning! The café had a range of food, including hot meals, delicious sandwiches, quiches and salads, as well as a patisserie! I had a ciabatta filled with goats cheese and some salad if I remember rightly! The sandwiches came with two salads, I picked potato salad and a beetroot salad with balsamic glaze. Both were delicious and it was a great start to the our weekend away!
For dinner we headed to Dishoom, which are restaurants based on the old Irani Cafes of Bombay and its incredibly popular. Reviews will tell you that on a Saturday night you can queue for an hour or more for a table, but we were really lucky! We arrived just after 9pm and found that they had had a power cut and the restaurant was empty. We got a table straight away and within half an hour of sitting down the place was full! And there was a reason, the food was incredible! I highly recommend that you go if you like curry next time you are in London.
On the Sunday morning we headed to The Breakfast Club but there was a long wait for tables, so we decided to head to Covent Garden and went to Le Pain Quotidien! I had the ‘Full Belgian’ (A cheese scone, scrambled eggs, sliced tomatoes and I swapped the prosciutto for eggs). It was very good, the café itself had a great atmosphere too!
After breakfast we walked through China Town, which was a great decision because there were lots of celebrations for the Chinese New Year and it was so much fun to see! We headed over to Gelupo, which sells proper Italian Gelato and it really was amazing!! Well worth a visit next time you are in London!
Finally, before we headed home we popped into the tearoom in The National Gallery for tea and cake! The Earl Grey tea was lovely and I had the Orange, plum and polenta cake, which looked as good as it tasted.
As you can probably tell we did spend a lot of time over the weekend eating and I really enjoyed it all!
