Daisy

Hey I'm Daisy, a Medical Biochemistry student back in Leicester for my final year following a year in Heidelberg, Germany. I will be writing about my return to life in Leicester, including both the academic and social aspects. I might also go on a bit about how much I'm missing the availability of schnitzel/pilsner and the appropriateness of wearing a dirndl.
Goodbye from me…

So here it is, my last blog post! Firstly I need to answer the question: what next? I have my degree under my belt but what to do with it? I mentioned in an earlier post that I had a place on the Cancer Cell and Molecular Biology MSc, remaining at Leicester. So this is […]

Graduation; from both sides
Posted by Daisy in Biological Sciences on July 25, 2016
On Friday the 15th of July I officially graduated from the University of Leicester with a BSc in Medical Biochemistry with a Year in Industry (with a 2:1 degree classification!). It was a truly magnificent day, full of celebrations. I was allocated three tickets for the ceremony, so my parents and my boyfriend attended with […]

Brexit
Posted by Daisy in Biological Sciences on June 24, 2016
I am in disbelief at the results of the EU referendum, with the UK voting to leave the EU. I was firmly on the Remain side, seeing this as the sensible decision. From a scientific point of view, I know that science benefits from collaborations in research and I am nervous to see the effect […]

Summer Plans
Posted by Daisy in Biological Sciences on June 15, 2016
I have officially finished my degree (providing I pass, of course) and to be honest nearly two weeks later it still hasn’t quite sunk in. It’s a strange feeling not having to go to the library every day and at times I have felt a little lost. But of course it has been lovely; I […]

The end is near
Posted by Daisy in Biological Sciences on June 1, 2016
With three exams complete and just one to go, I can see the end. On Friday morning I will be sitting my final ever undergraduate exam. My exams so far have been a mixed bag- one has gone pretty well, another has gone partially well and another not so great. Having said this, I’ve definitely […]

LCFC celebrations
Posted by Daisy in Biological Sciences on May 29, 2016
After Leicester won the Premier League title a few weeks ago, the city has been the liveliest I’ve ever seen it. A couple of weeks ago we had the LCFC parade, with the tour bus ending in Victoria Park. As my student house is across the road, I didn’t have much of a choice in […]

HONY
Posted by Daisy in Biological Sciences on May 17, 2016
I don’t know how many people follow Humans of New York on social media, but those who don’t should. HONY tells stories of the people on the streets of NYC, with a picture to go with each story. Sometimes the pictures show the person who’s story is being told, other times the person will remain […]

Come Dine with Me
Posted by Daisy in Biological Sciences on May 2, 2016
As you can imagine, at present life isn’t the most interesting. The highlight of my day is normally packing up my work after a morning at the library and heading to the gym for a change of scenery, before heading back to the library for an afternoon session. My housemates and I wanted to give […]

Summer Social Weekender
Posted by Daisy in Biological Sciences on April 24, 2016
As most people are probably aware, after exams the student union hosts the ‘Summer Social Weekender’. This is a two day event with three separate parts to it. The first is the Friday night Shabang at the O2 academy, a typical Friday night for Leicester students. The second takes place on the Saturday daytime and […]

When the hard work pays off!
Posted by Daisy in Biological Sciences on April 17, 2016
Since coming back from Germany I have definitely felt more motivated and focused on my final year. I’ve put a lot of hard work into all of my pieces of coursework this year, really trying to understand the literature and hoping this shows in my work. I have found that I have more of an […]
