Dave’s Comedy Festival is once again in Leicester! Comedy has had a big boom over the last few years in popularity, and living in Leicester is great for the comedy that comes to it. We have a comedy club in town called “Just the Tonic” which houses comedy all year round, but at this time of year it explodes with extra talent. On Tuesday nights they host a free entry, comedy night, of new comedians that are competing to take part in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. So, students, plus free entry meant that one of my housemates and I could not resist going last night! And it was really good fun, there were nine comedians as well as a compare that did their best to get the audience going. Although it was quite a small crowd the comedians were enthusiastic, interesting – and mostly very funny.
This year, my house, and friends have been trying to come up with lots of low-cost “non-heavy-drinking” events (e.g. not clubbing) to still socialise and chill out after all the work we have to do in third year, but also whilst trying to save the pennies! If you look around its surprising how much you can save. There are a lot of restaurants in town that do 20/25% for students on certain days, and The Slug and Lettuce do 50% off all food on a Monday (which we all indulged in the other week!). It’s nice to be somewhere that isn’t uni or your house, with your friends, having conversations that do not involve work. As although I love my degree, downtime is definitely needed in third year, more than any other!
