I have finally applied to my first graduate scheme. I’ve been looking from the end of the term in seriousness for available jobs and graduate schemes that appeal to me, and I found my first one the other day, that was still open for application! It’s with the Royal Society of Chemistry and seems perfect for me as it matches my third year project pretty perfectly – promotion of chemistry in an educational and industrial capacity. I was slightly disheartened by the fact I had to fill out an application form rather than just sending my CV in with a covering letter, but by writing out my reasons for applying, and linking actions I have done to the skills required for the graduate scheme it has helped me see that I’ve actually done quite a lot, and shown I’m capable of quite a lot. It’s a good ego boost – now just to wait to see if I get an interview! And to keep looking for anything else that catches my eye.
Revision is obviously the other half of my Easter holiday struggle as my final exams are a month away now, and it’s of vital importance I do the best I possibly can to get the best degree I can… to be able to get jobs and onto graduate schemes. It all seems a bit depressing at the moment, but luckily my house-mates are keeping me laughing, and we’re having trips out for dinner and to Madison’s ice-cream and cake parlour. If anything can perk you up to revise for a few more hours it’s a banoffee pie cake shake! There’s also Mississippi mud pie cake shake for anyone who had a better taste in pie than me too… I do understand banoffee is an acquired taste.
Good luck to anyone revising for their summer exams, I’m sure you’ll all get the grades to do whatever you are aiming to do with them – whether its University, Internship, Work or you’re taking some time out to travel.
