So something you might hear a lot is people saying that the best time to try new things is when you’re a student. Sometimes, the statement is used to justify some more questionable behaviours, but it is generally a good piece of advice. So, after watching shows like Live at the Apollo on television for the last few years, me and two of my housemates decided to go and see some a live comedy show. The comedian we ended up seeing was Jason Manford.
We actually have quite a thriving comedy scene (if that’s a thing) here. Leicester hosts Dave’s Comedy Festival annually, a place where both new acts and already-established comics visit the city to bring their shows for a week in January. In fact, when we saw him the other day, Jason Manford described it as one of the best comedy festivals in the UK, second only to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
So yeah, that’s really what I’m trying to say. We’ve lived in Leicester for a year now, and are still discovering things that the city has to offer. That’s one of the great things about moving to a new city I think. Although, having said that, most people don’t know about, or at least haven’t tried, everything that their area has to offer. Sometimes, you might be surprised. So, next time you see something that you think ‘I’d like to try that one day’ then just do it. It could be amazing, and life’s too short.
