Hello, I’m Jack and I’m going to be a new blogger for the chemistry department this year. I thought for my first post I’d keep it short and sweet, just a little introduction about myself and course etc.
As you know by now my name is Jack and I’m a chemistry student at the University of Leicester. In September I will be starting the 4th and final year of my degree, this means I’ll be graduating with an MChem next summer. When starting out a Leicester I was originally on the BSc programme but switched up to the MChem at the end of my first year. If you’re thinking about studying at Leicester and you can’t choose between the BSc and MChem programme, everyone starts out exactly the same first year so as long as you meet a certain requirement (60% grade average I think), you won’t have a problem changing it. The last three years have flown by and I’m nowhere near ready to graduate and join the real world yet so I’m glad I made this decision.
When moving up to the Master’s programme, I decided to take my 3rd year abroad, since I love to travel I thought this would be the perfect opportunity. I did my exchange year at Colorado State University, USA, and had such an amazing time; if you’re considering study abroad at all you should definitely do it. I’m sure I’ll expand on the year abroad some other time so I won’t talk about it too much right now.
Throughout the year I hope to give you a good insight about life as a student at Leicester, from the studying side to the social aspects. If you ever any have any questions please feel free to ask away in the comment section and I’ll try and get back to you as soon as possible.
Jack
