Hi all,
As I mentioned in a previous post, I’ve been searching for a job in Leicester to fund my planned trip to Australia at Christmas. Said job search turn up positive and I now have a job working behind a bar/ waiting at The Lansdowne, a pub on London Road. Yesterday I had a training shift and it was pretty damn fun.
The pub has a cracking range of cocktails which means I have to learn to make them. Having never made cocktails before (apart from some funky concoctions during various predrinks that I should probably never try to recreate) it went well. And of course once they were made, someone had to drink them (hint: it was me); I also got to sample a whole bunch of beers which was grand. All in all, it was a good time and I now know a tonne more about alcohol.
I had to make a trip back home to Bedford this week and returned via a lift from my parents. When my parents visit in Leicester it’s always a good time because we tend to go out for food. I’m always on the lookout for a new place to eat and in my last three years I’ve ticked off a considerate amount of restaurants considering I’m on a student budget. I’d heard a couple of people recommend a place called “Jones’ Cafe Bistro”, it’s on queens road and is somewhat unassuming from the outside but reading it in another student blog I decided to give it a shot. This was the best decision I’ve made this week, potentially this year; the food was amazing!
I went for the “greedy breakfast” which was enormous, everything was perfectly cooked and reasonably priced. The breakfasts are served all day and are just incredible. If you’re ever on the lookout for a hangover cure go to Jones’!
It’s definitely my new favourite place in Leicester and I’m probably going to be something of a regular this year.
If you’re in Leicester, go check it out, you won’t regret it. If you’re ever looking for anywhere else to eat, ask in the comments section because I’m sure I’ll have someplace else to recommend!
Jack
