Patrick Roothfuss said in The Name of the Wind,
“When we are children we seldom think of the future. This innocence leaves us free to enjoy ourselves as few adults can. The day we fret about the future is the day we leave our childhood behind.”
And nothing says you have left your childhood behind like hitting your 20s. In the month of August I grew a year older and hopefully became wiser. I remember when I was a kid and all I wanted to do was grow up and now that I am I just wish I could freeze time. With every year added to my life comes a new ounce of responsibility. But I didn’t let that get in the way of my celebrations. For the first time ever I celebrated my birthday away from my family and home.
My actual birthday was during the week and I had to work (summer internship). I did however receive a lovely card signed by everyone from my department which has now been added to my collection (yes I am a hoarder). The office also purchased some celebratory snacks for the day so it wasn’t too bad. However, the real celebration came the following Saturday in Leicester. My lovely friends from all over UK came together to join in on my celebrations. We started with a buffet lunch at Red Hot World Buffet, the perfect place for all you buffet lovers. It’s situated right in the city centre. The food there is divine! There was an incident involving helium balloons proving once and for all that you are never too old to embrace your inner child. After the filling meal, we all headed home and partied the night away. Overall it was a great first birthday away from home and I am thankful to my awesome friends who have now become my family.
Hope you are all having a wonderful summer!
