Nothing quite says summer is over like being drenched from head to toe on your way back from the supermarket. Yes, you guessed it right, rainy season is back. I love it when it rains, don’t get me wrong, but only when I am indoors curled up in front of the telly with a steaming cup of hot chocolate. Unfortunately we can’t all spend our days like that, bummer. What with lessons and tutorials and seminars and tests, we have no choice but to brave the storm and get out there. Now if you are from a somewhat dry country like I am, braving the rain and cold isn’t as easy as it seems. But I feel like after two years of this wet weather, I have finally picked up a thing or two on make it more bearable.
There’s nothing more valuable than a good pair of boots when living in a wet place. I recommend combat boots, my favourite, or those adorable colourful rain boots. Boots won’t only keep you dry but will also help with traction to avoid slipping and falling on the wet surface. And if you can get ones with the protective fur to keep you warm and toasty then all the better.
Never underestimate the power of a raincoat! In Leicester it doesn’t just rain, it’s rainy and windy at the same time. I can’t even begin to count the number of umbrellas I have lost to the wind. And what makes rain coats extra special is that you can always pack one in your bag just in case it comes down pouring on you unexpectedly at any given time.
Now I know I have already praised the raincoat but an umbrella is also essential. A good quality umbrella that is. You don’t want your umbrella to give out on you on the first day. The one huge disadvantage about them though is how easily they get lost (this is purely based on how easily I lose mine). So the best option is to get a folding umbrella that can fit in your bag when not in use.
I know all the above won’t make rainy days go away, but they will make them slightly bearable. If you have any other tips on how to survive rainy days just leave them below in the comments section, I would love to hear them. I hope you all enjoy the rest of your week 🙂
