Yes the countdown has begun. Almost everyone around you is super excited about going home and seeing their family and their loved ones. This is the time to get away from university and all its pressures and stress and just unwind far, far away from it all. But alas, due to uncontrollable circumstances you won’t being seeing your family this holiday. You won’t be eating any of the deliciously home cooked meals or sleeping in your familiar bed. What to do? As someone who has spent the last two winter breaks away from home I am here to tell you that it is okay. It is actually not that bad.
Firstly, if you know you won’t be home for Christmas you have to plan ahead! You do not want to leave it till the last minute and end up being all alone on the day. Talk to your friends and classmates, some of them might also not be going home, the more the merrier. You could also use this as a chance to travel a bit and explore new places. There is always lots of different travel packages available during this time. You could, for example, spend Christmas in Paris. Seeing a new place and meeting new people is sure to take your mind off from being away from home. And lastly obviously use this time as an opportunity to study for your January examinations. I don’t know about you but I would be pretty distracted from studying if I was home and catching up with my family and friends that I haven’t seen in months. It’s always easier to study and focus on your school work without any distractions.
And with that bit of advice I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year, no matter whether you are home with family or roaming the streets of Venice. I will spending mine with my friends in Glasgow this year, be sure to look out for a post about how it all went. I would also love to hear what you have planned so let me know in the comments section 🙂
