Hi, I’m Becky and I will be the Economics blogger for the duration of the next academic year. I am going into my third and (possibly) final year at the University of Leicester, meaning that this is the first year that I have been able to pick my own modules. Not all courses are like this, with some enabling you to pick your own modules earlier in your degree, but BA Economics like to keep you waiting in suspense… (fyi; that’s my attempt at ‘building suspense’, not a typo.)
I’ve really enjoyed the modules that I’ve been taught up until this point, but I’m excited about finally having the opportunity to tailor my degree to my specific interests. I was given 14 module options, which I then had to narrow down to my final three (It was all very dramatic – think X Factor bootcamp, but with less showbiz and more me in my pyjamas). The three I picked were Development Economics, International Trade and Accounting. It was fairly difficult narrowing it down because so many of the modules appealed to my interests, but I really think that I will enjoy these three topics.
If you have any modules to pick throughout the duration of your course I recommend looking and researching early. You want to make sure that you know exactly what you’re getting into because nobody wants to deal with the aggravation of changing timetables and missing lectures in the first few weeks. It will also give you the opportunity to tweak your degree after first year if you already know what modules you have a stronger interest in. For example, as I do straight Economics, I could’ve easily transferred to Business Economics or Financial Economics up until the end of my first term of second year. This change would’ve completely altered the outlook of my third year modules, and an option that a lot of my friends chose *zero loyalty*.
So there’s what my third year is currently looking like, I’m excited to start this new year and to start my time as the new economics student blogger. Can’t wait to share more of my time at the University of Leicester with you all!!
Hey Becky! Loved that X-Factor comparison! That’s definitely what picking modules is like and always, always done in PJs. Good luck this year and can’t wait to read more from you 🙂
EXACTLY! Thanks for the positive feedback and the good luck, Lucie!!
Loved the first post, looking forward to your experiences of third year and hopefully I will get some tips for when I do my final year at Leicester next year haha.
Good luck with third year!
Thanks Elizabeth!!
