This week I wanted to tell you about something really, truly, absolutely awesome.
Some information that will make you look at humanity and wonder at the sheer bloody mindedness of people.
It’s not new news but it’s news that deserves to be shared with everyone, everywhere.
Someone has decided to build a rocket car.
It’s called Bloodhound SSC and the SSC stands for SuperSonic Car. That’s right, a car that can go faster than most planes. Here’s a quick picture:
So that’s how you design a car to reach Mach 1.4. Oh, and instead of 0-60mph they say how long it takes to go 0-1000mph. 42 seconds, if you’re interested.
This car is effectively being built for two reasons; to prove it’s possible and to find out how.
It’s being built in the UK by a massive team but they’re looking for people to get involved. The coolest way to do this is by donating. If you give more than £10 you can get your name written on the fin. Let me clarify, your name could go at 1050mph. You can also sign up to raise awareness, or do a couple of other things (have a look at the website for more information).
There’s also a competition to design the helmet the driver will be wearing. Unfortunately it’s only open to school children but if you know anyone eligible let them know about it!
If you decide to get involved with this let me know in the comments below. Or you can tell me about some engineering you’ve heard about that’s this cool!
