Places to Visit

Outside of the University side of life, Leicester has a lot to offer in a way of things to do. So I thought I’d put a quick guide together giving you a few ideas for weekend entertainment, or places to take visiting friends:

  1. Within walk-able distance just outside the city center, well in my opinion its walk-able but if you disagree you can hop on the first bus 54, is the national space center. It’s based in a pretty spectacular rocket building that’s hard to miss when you are passing it! There are a total of six galleries that are filled with all things spacey. From rockets and space suits to satellites and meteorites. It’s also home to the largest planetarium in the UK, so defiantly worth a visit at some point. See the link bellow for more info!

  1. Leicester is home to two top rated sports teams, at Welford road you have the Leicester Tigers, which the point at university often offers discounts for their games, so you can go see a top flight rugby team for £10. The atmosphere here is always great and you can see well from all around the stadium even the standing areas. Then at the king power there is Leicester City football club, who are currently in the Premiership and have weekly games that you can easily get tickets for. Even if you aren’t a fan, you might be able to get tickets for when they play your team.
  1. High cross is open all week and for those of you that look for a retail fix, with over 120 stores it fits the bill perfectly! There are plenty of coffee stores and restaurants should you get hungry on your trip, or are just looking for somewhere to eat.

  1. Leicester also has a thriving Theatre scene, with De Montfort Hall, Curve and a few more you are sure to find something on that you want to go and see.
