Hello everyone,
I am the lead student ambassador for the Women in Computer Science Leicester(WCSL) group for this academic year. This is a student-lead event run by me.
The Women in Computer Science Leicester group is here to help and promote Computer Science among female students with an interest in this subject. This group is not restricted to female students of the Department of Informatics and anyone is welcome to attend our meetings whether you are studying Computer Science or not.
I am pleased to inform you that we are holding our meet ups next month. So please come along and bring your friends. You can sign up your interests using the following link here.
We will be advertising the meeting dates and the topic of discussion for each meeting through our Facebook group and you are welcome to join here.
We talk about networking events and career opportunities, geared towards women such as “IT’s not just for boys”, “WomENcourage” conference, “Grace Hopper” Conference, “BCS Colloquium”, ‘STEMettes‘ etc. The organisation ‘STEMettes’ offers ‘Student to STEMettes‘ program which provides student with one to one mentor-ship, work shadowing opportunities, panel sessions, Hackathons and many more.
We are also working to set up free coding classes for females at our university campus through the Code First: Girls organization. General information about the free coding classes run by the Code First: Girls organization can be found here.
Here are some great scholarship opportunities for female Computer Science students:
- Google Women Techmakers Scholarship (formerly known as Google Anita Borg Scholarship)
- L’Oréal-UNESCO’s For Women in Science programme
- Delphix Scholarship

I am looking forward to meeting you all.
Cheers,
Oishi
