This Monday marks the beginning of the end. It’s the start of my final term at the University of Leicester. My last three exciting new modules await me.
Two of my modules finish off Leicester’s chronological journey through English literature:
- Victorian to Modern 1870-1945 covering famous authors including Thomas Hardy, Oscar Wilde, T. S. Eliot, Virginia Woolf and George Orwell.
- Post War to Postmodern 1945 – Present Day which will introduce me to Modernism and some of the most influential and experimental writers of the 21st century. I’m especially looking forward to attempting Salman Rushdie and revisiting Jeanette Winterson after my Contemporary Women’s Writing module last term.
My last module is my second ‘special subject’ or optional module. I’m studying Tragedy which should be an interesting contrast to the other two modern modules. The module looks at Shakespeare’s tragedies and the Greek influence of Sophocles and Seneca. In year 13 I did an Extended Project on Shakespeare’s Tragedies so I’m hoping this should be a chance to follow up and develop this project.
The fun starts tomorrow morning!`
