Finally it’s the end of term, but it doesn’t feel like the end of term because of all the work I have to do. So I decided to give myself a break and actually go away, leave Leicester for a few days, even better, leave the country for a few days. Therefore, I booked a last minute ticket to our friendly neighbour, the French (well technically to Basel, Switzerland since Ryanair and EasyJet do not fly to Strasbourg), in order to enjoy wonderful French culture (Christmas market and mulled wine), and to see some friends that I haven’t seen since finishing my ERASMUS.
I took a train from Leicester to London Stanstead airport, then took my flight to Basel, then took a train from Basel to Strasbourg, France (the journey was far too long). It was an amazing two days. I got to experience the Christmas markets all over again and drink amazing mulled wine. I also overloaded on French cuisine, and missed my train back to Switzerland due to wine (I had to buy some wine to bring back and lost track of the time finding the perfect wine). This then led to me waiting an hour for the next train and laughing with my Strasbourgoise friends at the fact that I might miss my flight plus my suitcase might be over 15kg (because of the 4 bottles of wine). It was the least panicked I’ve ever been in a situation that would normally cause me panic (it was probably due to the French air). Finally, I made it to the airport, my suitcase was 13.3kg, I didn’t miss my flight and my wine was intact I got back to Leicester.
It was such an amazing trip, one that made me forget about my essays and dissertation. It was a much needed break from a hectic semester.
