Anyone that has experienced the fresher’s fair knows that you enter with an empty bag and exit the tent with about 50 pens, post it notes, and often a pair of bright coloured sunglasses. While Fresher’s fair can be an excellent way of accumulating loads of free goodies, it is also a really beneficial event. There are loads of brands offering discounts as well as companies that assist with the career side of life. As well as this it’s also a great way to spend some time with your flat outside of halls.
Alongside the freshers fair is the sports and societies fair, where you find out information about taster sessions and sign up for whatever societies you fancy trying. As a fresher I never joined a society, and it is one of the biggest regrets of my uni life, its such an easy way to make friends and expand your social life. In second year I joined hockey, and it was great despite the fact I’m actually awful at hockey, so don’t worry about the sports side too much it’s the socialising part that actually counts.
Side note: I also won a free domino’s large pizza so it doesn’t get much better than that!
