This week I turned 21 (I know officially an adult, SCARY!). I deliberated for a while as to whether I should go home for my birthday, but it was on a Thursday so it was awkward when I had lectures and seminars. all of my home friends were at university and my parents were eager enough to come spend the day in Leicester so it seemed like the easiest thing to do. I thought I’d devote this post to the city and some of things in Leicester that made my birthday more exciting.
Like I previously said, my parents came to visit on the actual day. We took a walk into town via the park and new walk and went for lunch at St Martins coffee shop, my Mum was beyond excited to get a grilled cheese sandwich. We had lunch, coffee and cake here and it was amazing as usual. Besides this we just had a wonder round town and Highcross and did some shopping.
Instead of buying me a birthday cake, my boyfriend actually treated me to a big box of Doughnuts from the new doughnut shop opposite Highcross called Doughnotts. I am a huge doughnut fan (how many times can I say doughnuts in 2 sentences) and usually go for Krispy Kremes, however these ones are hugeeee and they do so many cool flavours, who doesn’t want a party ring flavoured doughnut? They also do a vegan selection for any vegans out there so would 100% recommend trying these out, they were insanely delicious.
On the evening of my birthday I had Dance awards at the Loaded Dog on London Road. I stayed here for a few drinks, I got pitchers because its the only option when you just turned 21, and the barman even gave me a free one cause it was my birthday!
The Friday night was when I was going on a night out with my friends, so I got to choose exactly where I wanted to go. We started off pre drinking at our house and then went for cocktails at Revolutions on New Walk. I am obsessed with cocktails and being a poor student I don’t get to drink them often, so it was a really nice treat. A few of my friends had rev’s cards so we got them 2 for 1. The music in there is really good on a Friday so its a great atmosphere. We then headed to Mosh, which is definitely my club of choice on a Friday, I don’t enjoy the music at Shabang and mosh is just super chilled and fun. Of course you have the advantage of getting to go to Mcdonalds and stuff your face before the taxi home too!
Unfortunately this looks like my last bit of fun before deadlines and exams kick in, but last week gave me a little bit of fun before all the hard stuff starts again!
