So far, the spring break does not go as planned; I caught the flu a few days ago and I’m still pretty ill. That means that my everyday activities are pretty much the same: lying in bed and, on the rare occassions when I feel a bit better, reading. Plus… I started to check properties to rent on the Internet again.
Me and my flatmate moved in to our flat in September and we have to move out at the end of June, so here starts the house hounting, just like at the same time last year. The thing is, I don’t really enjoy looking for flats because I feel like I have standards that are too high and I’m too pessimistic. I mean, what are the chances of finding a place that is nice and modern inside, that is located in a safe neighbourhood, close to the University as well as to the city centre, that is not too noisy, that has all the bills included in the rent and that is, amongst all, not (too) expensive? I’m not saying that finding such place is a ‘Mission: Impossible’, but… well, it kind of is. I mean, I know: I have to let go a bit of my expectations and be more flexible. I’m still working on it.
If there wasn’t the pressure of finding a place which is suitable from all points of view, I think I could actually enjoy the searching. I don’t know, I just like looking at houses’ interiors. But knowing that I have to find a good accommodaion by the end of June, it gets a bit stressful. Plus there’s a thing that makes the house hunting even harder for me and my friend. That is that in July and in August we won’t be staying in England so we need to find a place which allows us to pay only half of the rent for those two months. (Luckily, we had this discount last summer.) Of course you might wonder that why don’t we look for a flat which is only available from September? There are two reasons. First, as we don’t normally live in England, we can’t just pop up in Leicester anytime in August for house viewings. Secondly, if we rented a place only from September, then we would need to store all our stuff (we have a LOT of stuff) at a storage company which would be quite expensive for such a long time.
All in all, it’s not easy, but the sooner we start to look, the bigger the chance is to find something sutiable. So, whenever I feel able to sit in front of my laptop for more than 5 minutes, I start searching. I hope you guys are in better health than me and have a lovely break!
