I feel I should be ashamed to say that I am that person…that person who blasted ‘All I want for Christmas is You’ as soon as bonfire night had passed. The holiday season is my favourite time of year, it’s Christmas, a time for celebration, and a time for family, and of course for me, my birthday being December 23rd certainly helps with excitement.
Already, I have my little Christmas nook in my bedroom, and have started formulating a Christmas playlist. However, today, since I’m a film student, I wanted to share a small list of my favourite Christmas telly, whether feature film or television Christmas special. Enjoy, and let me know some of your favourites in the comments if I missed them!
1.Gavin and Stacey, ‘Christmas Special’ (2008): Admittedly I watch this all year round, but it’s a sitcom worth getting into if you’ve never watched it, super charming and never fails to make me smile.
2.Elf (2003): You’ve been living under a rock if you’ve missed this Christmas gem. A reoccurring trend with me and Christmas films is comedy, and this one is definitely the silliest.
3.The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993): This film is perfect for the period between Halloween and Christmas, giving you a steady transition into festive cheer…if you’ve never heard ‘This is Halloween’ please do look it up.
4.The Royle Family, ‘The New Sofa’ (2008): This sitcom has had several Christmas specials, so this one was a tough choice, but is probably the most festive of the lot. (‘The Golden Eggcup’ is a very close second, however it lacks any reference to Christmas.)
5.How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000): The idea that Jim Carrey almost quit this film, because he couldn’t deal with the extreme makeovers, amuses me immensely; he is a fab Grinch though…I’m very curious to see how Benedict Cumberbatch fairs.
6.Love Actually (2003): My love for this film will never end, however I’ll forever be angry at Alan Rickman for not giving Emma Thompson that necklace…if you know, you know.
7.Nativity! (2009): Possibly an unconventional choice but this is my favourite Christmas film by a mile! The sequels (especially after number two) not so much. An incredibly sweet film, and a ridiculously catchy soundtrack; just watch it!
Admittedly my Christmas viewing is endless, but if you were to find me on a cold night by the fire, chances are you’d find me watching on of these. I hope you all feel like you can feel acceptably festive soon, haha.
Take Care Everyone, I’ll Speak to You All Soon!
