Hello all, sorry this blog has taken me a little while to write; I’ve been rather busy lately. One of things I have been busy with is the annual Geography ball, which was held on Friday, so I thought I’d tell you a bit about that.
The event was held at the Mercure Hotel in town, which has a lovely staircase in the entrance for photographs. There was no theme, although previous years have seen a masquerade ball and a Hollywood themed ball. The tables were decorated beautifully and we were seated for a three-course meal – the food was delicious! Following the meal the Geography Society president made a short speech, and gave out the annual sports awards (for the intramural geography teams in basketball, netball and football), before the new committee was announced.
Then it was time for good old dancing. The society had organised the Leicester Big Band (a swing band) to play, who were brilliant (if a little noisy!) before a DJ played some of those classic songs which always get you dancing.
My closest friends and I have been to the ball each year, so to go to our final one was exciting, but a slightly sad occasion as our time together is soon coming to an end. But we didn’t let that thought get in the way and definitely made the most of the evening. Overall it was a great night, and it’s not often you get to dress up smartly and go to a posh meal – so whenever you get the change at university I would definitely recommend it!
