This month I had the honour of going to the student awards again! I was shortlisted for an individual award ‘Environmental Achiever of the Year’ and my society, the Environmental Action Society, was shortlisted for two group awards ‘Campaigning Group of the Year’ and ‘Green Impact Group of the Year’. Before I reveal whether or not I/we won any of the awards… here are some pictures from the event!
The format of the evening was very similar to last year. After a welcome speech by the Student’s Union President and a guest speaker, the awards were given out in between the courses of our meal. After our starter, and a number of well-deserved individual awards, the Environmental Achiever of the Year was announced. The award went to someone else which was well-earned! I was thrilled to have been highly commended for the award and got a certificate for it later 😀
Then after our main meal, the student group awards were presented. And the winner of Campaigning Group of the Year goes to………………
We were so ecstatic to have won!
And then came the results for the Green Impact Group of the Year… Hungry for Change! I am so happy that they have won as they really deserve it! Having been part of the society since first year when I helped rip out fences and dig up the empty plot of land, I am so proud of the beautiful garden and how established the society has become. They have done amazing work in raising the profile of locally grown, organic, healthy food and made us all think far more about where our food comes from and what the impact of our purchases have on the planet and society.
It was so wonderful to go the awards again, and not just for the free entry to LetsDisko 😉 I absolutely recommend getting involved in societies and extra activities during your time at Leicester, because Leicester is unique in that it throws such an awesome celebration for its students and recognises all of their hard work! Thank you to the organisers for this great night!
