101 ways to pronounce a name

Okay, so there aren’t THAT many ways to say my name but over my life I’ve encountered a fair few. They range from:
the usual – Ellery (rhymes with celery)
to the humorous – Elluury (el-UR-ee)
to the utterly wrong – Allerie
and to the total surrender – ‘I’m not even going to try and pronounce your name’.
Throughout school and even university life there aren’t many people who don’t get to hear the words: “It’s Eh-LAIR-ree”

reminding everyone of the scene in Harry Potter….

“It’s levi-O-sa! Not levi-OHSAR”

But it is reassuring to know that if I was a spell, everyone trying to cast me would get a face full of soot.

However, on the more serious side, Hi! My name is Eleri Simpson and I am just beginning a, hopefully, long and fruitful career as a student Blogger for the school of Geology. Please feel free to leave a comment on any of my blogs and I will endeavour to reply swiftly. But, as my good friend Thumper always says ‘If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothing at all’.

TTFN! Ta ta for now!

About Eleri

Eleri has now graduated from the University of Leicester. Hello! My name is Eleri Simpson and I'm a 4th (and final!) year geology student at the University of Leicester. The parts of my course that I love the most are: mapping, igneous and metamorphic processes, geochemistry and volcanology. Outside of learning I'm part of the First Aid society and the University concert band, where I play the clarinet. I enjoy evenings at the pub, cooking, walking in the countryside and a good cup of tea.
