I’m Claire and I’m the new Student Blogger for the School of Historical Studies, currently studying in my final year. In the next few months I’ll no doubt talk a lot about History and Music – two of my favourite things! So why not start early?
Here’s my first blog about Music at Leicester:
I’ve been playing music since I was at secondary school and always enjoyed it as a hobby. When I started to think about applying for Universities I was pushed towards choosing music. Now, this is all well and good but I like music as a hobby and felt that doing a degree in music would really limit my options after graduation. History was similarly a passion of mine, yet it was much more understated. I chose history because I felt it would open more doors for me in the sense of choosing a career path, and I was still able to enjoy music as a hobby.
This is why I’m really glad I came to Leicester. Leicester used to offer a music degree and therefore has all the facilities still on campus. How many universities do you know with no music degree but flawless facilities? I think it works to my advantage that there is no music degree here, because the competition to get into the bands would be fierce. As it is now, the bands and choirs are friendly and provide a fun alternative to watching BBC iPlayer on weekday evenings!
