So today I moved back to Leicester! I’m living in the same house that I did last year, so that’s super helpful because I was able to leave quite a bit of stuff here over the summer.
When it came to it though, I’m sure I had more stuff than ever – the car was pretty weighed down on the way here – and I really don’t know where it all came from. Every time I pack to come back to Leicester I realise just how much stuff I have accumulated over the years, and not all of it is useful.
I’m going to be honest, for me, moving is one of the most difficult parts of uni life to adjust to. I hate the feeling of packing my life up and, although I’m always excited to go back to Leicester, the workload of boxing everything up looms over me.
So my advice would be, approach it in stages. I say that I’m going to do this every year, and never, ever do it, but it would definitely help to pack over a few days, rather than a few hours the night before leaving! I am possibly the worst person for planning ahead, but if you aren’t, then do it early, I promise it will save you a lot of hassle and make it seem a lot more manageable.
Also, I probably make the mistake of bringing most of the clothes I own, when I could probably just ‘season appropriate’ ones instead. As my parents bring me up in the car I probably have the luxury of taking more stuff, but if, for whatever reason, you have to go by train then you’ll need to minimise what you’re bringing. So before you pack something, just think to yourself – ‘Do I really need this?’.
Hope this little bit of advice may have helped you with ant packing dilemmas!
Finally, I’d wish everyone moving to Leicester soon, whether you’re a fresher, second, or final year like me (scary!), good luck for the year ahead!
