It’s only a number, but I still haven’t gotten over the fact that 2015 is over; hello and welcome to its older, more intimidating sibling, 2016. 2016 just reminds me of when I began my first year of university and had to fill in forms stating my expected graduation year. 2016 seemed forever away.
But here it is, and it represents the final hurdle in my journey as a University of Leicester undergrad. I decided I would be theoretically organised and create a checklist of the main things I want to achieve before 2017 *gulps* (not necessarily in chronological order).
- Graduate with a 2:1
Well, all my hard work at the University would go to waste if I didn’t end up graduating at the end of it! Everyone has their own goals, but I’d be very proud if I achieved a 2:1 class degree in History.
- Pass my practical driving test/ get a car
This is an important one if only to quieten all family members who persistently ask ‘when are you going to learn to drive?’. It was always my plan to learn during my final year so that I could hopefully buy a car to travel to/ from my future job.
- Secure a graduate job
This is the really daunting goal! Ideally, I want to work in PR/ marketing/ writing, but as I’m quickly finding out, these jobs are popular and competitive. I’m already looking (and panicking).
- Move cities!
As if finding a graduate job wasn’t scary enough, the plan is to do this in a completely different city to my hometown. If I can find somewhere, I’m planning on renting an apartment because I’m not ready to go back to living with my parents just yet.
I’m no expert, but I’m aware that my goals are quite ambitious and I’m unsure of whether they are all achievable. However, I am really determined and enjoy having things to aim for. If I can check all four goals off my list by 2017 I will be extremely happy!
