Hello everyone, I’m gonna be taking a break from festive frolicking today to bring you a super cool art history blog that now has it’s own website (yay!)
Art history, like much western history is incredibly Euro-centric, and hundreds of years of exclusion and white-washing has led to as notable absence of people of colour in the art historical canon, especially within art history education. Despite students craving originality, diversity and historical accuracy in their learning. But if we art historians of the future are going to try and put this right, we need to start looking at what has been hidden from us, which is why the medievalpoc tumblr blog has been one of my favourites for a long time.
The original blog is a fantastic resource to search for specific works or just take a leisurely scroll though, you will be amazed at how much beautiful art work has been removed from the public conscious because of it’s poc subjects. They have also just launched their website proper, at medievalpoc.org, so be sure to check back on that regularly as content is transferred.
Check it out, enjoy the gorgeous art and feed your mind. I’ll be back soon with something christmassy for y’all!
