Last week marked the official start of my designated ‘project time’. Being in my third year, one of my modules consists of a large piece of individual work that is termed our ‘project’. A while back we were all given a big list of projects that were available and we had to chose our favourite. The project I chose placed me in the department of genetics where I am studying four different genes that are present in humans and constructing databases that I will be filling with details about the genes.
I have to admit, when I first started it was pretty scary. Taking on such a big piece of work by yourself does put the pressure on. However, I have been working solidly on it for five days now and I am definitely starting to get into the swing of it. My supervisor has been absolutely amazing as well. He has been great at explaining things to me and giving me advice when I am a little bit lost. Don’t get me wrong, I still have a long way to go but I am definitely now feeling that I am in a position ready to face and enjoy the challenge! I look forward to seeing the final product that all my hard work is going to produce.
(P.S. I had to get a special card that gives me special access to my little room where I am working! I am not entirely sure why this makes me so happy, but it does. . . )
