So, as the end of the Easter holiday approaches (and deadlines and exams start to loom!!! :() I have started to realised just how much my Uni holidays have changed since first year. In my first year at Uni I stayed in halls in the Oadby student village (Woohoo GMS halls! :)) along with many other first years and so, as I was catered, I had to move out of my room for both the Christmas and Easter holidays. It was a little annoying (especially considering the amount of stuff I somehow managed to accumulate!) but it did mean that I would get to go back home for pretty much the whole 5 weeks and see all my family and friends from home.
However, since then the time that I have spent in Leicester for the holidays has gradually been increasing. This holiday I have only been back home at the weekends! I did however get to spend a week skiing in the Alps with my family which was absolutely amazing and it was great to have that time just concentrating on catching up with my family. The rest of the time however I decided I needed to be in Leicester so as to be near the library and Uni computer software for my work. It is made a lot easier now by the fact that I am in a rented house that I can stay in.
It is sad to think that I don’t get as much time to see my family and friends back at home as I use to (I still make time, it is just quite a tight schedule!) but I can’t deny that the independence is great! It is nice to really feel like I am actually my own person now. I love that I can really think of my rented house here in Leicester as home. Plus, I am definitely not the only one who this has happened to. All of my current housemate have stayed in the house with me for the holidays and there is still lots of people around to see even though it is the holidays. I am not sure yet how I will spend my time yet over the summer. I am very lucky that, although my housemates and I are moving house for next year, we will always have a place to stay. I am a bit worried about the move though. . . I have soooooo much stuff!! 😮
