Today I got a chance to put on my walking boots, hard hat and hand lens and head off on a field trip. After a day of looking at lots of rocks and undertaking a fair amount of fossil hunting, I am now back home with a nice cup of tea.
Sadly we are not off on field trips as much as the Geologists and we tend not to go as far afield but nevertheless, I always look forward to them. Having to try and figure out the series of events from the rocks is always a fun challenge for me, I like the detective aspect. Also, getting to be learning out of Uni is always a nice change to being in front of a textbook. Plus, thinking of just how old some of the rocks and fossils are never ceases to make me smile. This is why I especially enjoyed the fossil hunting section of my day and my backpack was slightly heavier on the return journey with some of the nice specimen I decided to bring back!
Today we visited a couple of sites just outside of Leicester to study evidence from the Jurassic period. This was to go along side our current, and final, module called Earth through Time in which we are looking at many of the important climate changes that have occurred in Earth’s history. We were really lucky in that the day was lovely and warm and sunny and we made some really good finds. It has made a pretty good start to my week!
