As promised, here’s some photos from The Inaugural Employability Symposium hosted by the Interdisciplinary Science Society. This event was months in the making, working in collaboration with both the Career Development Service and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Science, and fortunately it turned out to be a success! We had speakers from the geosciences company CGG, the patent attorneys Serjeants, and TeachFirst, along with alumni from the National Space Centre working in science communication, the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory as a research scientist, Whitecode Design Associates as a sustainability consultant, and a graduate now studying for a neuroscience PhD. This was designed firstly to give natural sciences students a personalised careers day, emphasising the benefits of the unique aspects of the degree at Leicester. Talking to alumni from a variety of different fields was then included to give an insight to what it’s like finding employment with such a degree, which is of particular interest as the programme is only ten years old! We’re currently going through feedback forms from those who attended to give to next year’s committee if they wish to continue with these sorts of events, but for now it’s just a relief that everything went pretty much to plan!
