Real life underdog stories don’t come around very often and with Leicester City Football Club only 3 points away from their first ever Premier League title, we are in the middle of one of the greatest underdog stories in the sport of football. You don’t have to be a football fanatic to understand that the top positions in the Premier League are usually occupied by the “big name clubs”. Yet, Leicester City is doing what many thought was impossible. Leicester City or the Foxes as they are also know, have never won a title in their 132-year history and at the start of the season, bookmakers had Leicester at an astonishing 5,000–1 to win the Premier League (to put that in perspective, that’s greater than the odds of Simon Cowell becoming the next Prime Minister which were 500-1). However, if Leicester City beat Manchester United tomorrow at Old Trafford they will make history and become Premier League Champions. You can imagine that a lot of people are going to be glued to their TVs tomorrow.
This football season, the city has been even more vibrant than usual. The people of Leicester seem to really support and care for their local team. Their recent success has served to brighten up the whole city and it’s been a joy to be right in the middle of it all. Looking at the overall picture, Leicester City winning the Premier League would not only be a win for the city; it would be a win for football itself as it would prove that belief in yourself and hard work, conquers all. So I hope you’ll join me in backing the blues.
