As 2013 closes its curtains tonight, I think it is fitting to commemorate this blog post to an unequivocally unforgettable year. As my own personal ode to 2013, I am going to share 8 of my favourite memories from the past 365 days with you all!
#8- MEETING THE QUEEN
Firstly, I should clarify any confusion. When, I say the Queen, I am not referring to Queen Elizabeth II.
For those who know where I’m going with this, you are right! I was incredibly lucky to get tickets for Beyoncé’s ‘Mrs Carter World Tour’ at the O2 Arena in May. I suppose, by now, my infatuation for Queen B is clearly apparent. Her performance was absolutely flawless. We also saw got to see Jay-Z and Blue-Ivy in the audience too. What a brilliant night.
#7 – FLYING SOLO TO THE USA
A memory that is still fresh in my mind is that of my trip to America. At the end of August, I was able to go to Illinois to visit my best friend who I hadn’t seen in three years! I was able to explore the magnificent Windy City that is Chicago, as well as see the charming State Capital of Springfield. I also managed to fly solo for the first time ever and get back in one piece – an utter miracle.
#6 MARSHALLING
On a different note, 2013 saw me being a productive law student (for the most part) where I secured work experience to shadow a Judge. It was, quite honestly, an inspiring and motivating (albeit daunting) experience and I feel so fortunate that I was able to do it! To find out more about it, check out this post!
#5 PASSING MY FIRST YEAR
Whilst on the topic of being a good law student, in July, I finished my first year of university and passed! I actually survived the terror that was Contract Law and I am really pleased.
They often say that your school days are the best days of your life. To that I entirely, wholeheartedly and completely disagree. Being at University has been a huge change in my life and my first year was the best year of education that I’ve had yet.
#4 STARTING SECOND YEAR
From what I said previously, it could be interpreted that I may agree with a common thought that ‘your first year is the best year of University.’
Well, in complete Dwight K. Schrute fashion, my response is ‘FALSE.’
Though I have only just started the year, I genuinely think that my University experience is getting better. The fact that you are no longer a ‘fresher’ means that you know more about yourself (in terms of interests, how you study and what you want etc.) which means that you feel less lost and more confident. Now, I have to admit that the start of Year 2 has been extremely busy and, from time to time I admit, rather overwhelming. Yet, I can say that I am having the best time. A huge part of me did not want the first semester to end.
#3 MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Since the start of my second year, I have been able to appreciate being at University more by getting involved in lots of things that I am passionate about. Being appointed the VP of UNICEF on Campus at Leicester, is something I’m really proud of because I’ve been able to really participate and help out in a variety of fundraising events that have raised amazing amounts of money that will ultimately change a child’s life. It just shows how much of a change and difference you can make as a University student!
#2 FORGING NEW FRIENDSHIPS
Something I find interesting is that, being a student at Leicester, you are in a great atmosphere to have the opportunity to meet new people, all the time. Over the past year I have met so many lovely people – thankfully many of them are on my course! In particular, I have to mention my special group in second year Law. I don’t think anyone could make me laugh as much as they do. I cannot wait until I’m reunited with them all in January!
#1 BLOGGER FOR LAW
Now I couldn’t forget this one, could I? One of the best things of 2013 is that it has brought me to all of you. I am so happy to be able to share my (at times crazy) experiences of my life as a law student. I hope that, through my blog posts, you get an insight into what its like to be a student studying Law at the University of Leicester! (Its not that scary at all!)
Well, I guess the next time you will be hearing from me, it will be 2014!
I wish you all, an incredible start to the New Year.
Zara 🙂
aw, I loved this post! Didn’t think much happened to me in 2013, but I think you’ve proved me wrong, as some of your big moments were mine too, ESPECIALLY the beyonce part.
Thank you so much! I am so glad you loved the post. Happy New Year! 🙂
